Do You Really Know ‘Thyself’?

Have the questions, who am I, do I know the real me, ever crossed your mind ? If they haven’t, it is time to think about it.

The journey to becoming happy people starts with understanding oneself.

To know thyself is the beginning of all wisdom...

- Aristotle
Greek Philosopher

Our journey of life on earth begins with our birth. It is at that time we are given an identity by way of gender and then a name. As we move on, our age also adds to our identity and so do our educational qualifications.

Along the way, we become identified for our perceived strengths. Some tell us we are good at Mathematics, some say at analytics, then we are classified as an extrovert, a hard working person, disciplined, etc.

We then know things about us that are not so good. These may be – an angry person, can’t connect with people, untidy, lazy, etc.

Most of these identities we carry are given to us by others. Over a period of time, we begin to accept these identities without questioning them.

If you are a person people define as lovable, you most likely believe it and love yourself. If you are rejected by others, you are likely to reject yourself. Effectively what others think of you, you reflect that back to them by accepting it.

So, how do you change? How do you know the real you?

We need to first start reflecting whether what others say is true or not . If it is not true, then it becomes our responsibility to reflect on what we truly are.

It is possible that you may not have control over every incident, but you definitely have the choice on how to respond. Once, you are able to drop your old ways of accepting what is thrown at you, and start responding in the way you choose, you will start reflecting the change. This process is slow, but eventually, people will start noticing the different you and treat you differently.

If we had a difficult past, it is our own responsibility to get over it and start afresh. We cannot change our past, but we can definitely take charge of our present by not letting our past shadow our present.

I urge you to give it a deep thought to understand, whether you are what you have started imagining yourself to be, or are you a different person?

If you are honest in your assessment, you will discover that many things may be different – your values, talents, relationships. You have so long lived under an illusion. The real you is now before you.

It is time now to drop that illusion and start being your own true positive self.

Live life in harmony with your true self. This will make you start feeling whole and complete. In other words, 100% worthy!
